Als ihre Tochter an einem Unfall starb, gaben sie indirekt John die Schuld dafür; da Catherine bei ihrem Autounfall gerade auf dem Weg zu John war, der sie treffen wollte wegen eines Versöhnungsgespräch, und klagten das Sorgerecht für Dillon an, dass John ihn freiwillig gab, da er der Meinung war, dass er es bei ihnen besser hat, da beide sehr wohlhabend sind und Johnny sich zu dem damaligen Zeitpunkt aufgrund des Alkohols nicht um ihn kümmern konnte. In der Pilotfolge gelingt es Johnny, dass Sorgerecht zurückzugewinnen, allerdings verliert er dies wieder in der letzten Folge, wo sie John vor gericht zerrten, sich letztendlich aber einigen konnten.
Hugh and Elizabeth Goodenough are the grandparents of Dillon and the parents of John. They live in Atlanta.Sie have left nothing for her son, because John was once a firebrand, against their will in the war dragged on and stand by their daughter's pregnancy left alone. CATHERINE GOODENOUGH
Catherine Hawkins war die Lebensgefährtin von John Hawkins und Dillons Mutter. Sie stammte aus einer wohlhabenden Familie und verliebte sich in den damaligen Tu-nicht-Gut John Hawkins. 1971 wurde
sie, nach einer kurzen Zeit wo John und Catherine zusammen waren, schwanger, doch Johnny ging in den Vietnam-Krieg und Catherine mußte das Baby alleine zur Welt bringen. Nach Johnny Rückkehr aus
Vietnam fing er das Trinken an und auch Catherine selbst griff öfters zur Flasche. Catherine trennte sich schliesslich von Johnny, um ihr Leben in den Griff zu bekommen. Als Johnny eine letzte
Aussprache wünschte, verunglückte Catherine mit dem Auto auf dem Weg zu ihm. Johnny überwand Catherine Tod nicht und fing wieder an zu trinken, weswegen die Goodenoughs das Sorgerecht für Dillon
bekamen. Erst kurz danach wurde auch Johnny "trocken" und begann sein Jura-Studium.
Da der Charakter schon vor Serienbeginn verstorben ist, gibts natürlich keinen gespielten Charakter.

Blossom absolvierte im Jahr 1941 die Asheville School und studierte daraufhin an der Harvard University. Er spielte in den 1950er Jahren einige Theaterrollen, für die er viermal den Obie Award
erhielt. Seine erste Filmrolle spielte er in der Fernsehadaptation des Theaterstücks "Our Town" aus dem Jahr 1959. Bekannt ist Blossom auch durch seine Rolle des "alten Marley" in "Kevin – Allein
zu Haus".
